Ysgol Bae Baglan, Help for Heroes and MotMC 2026!

During Month of the Military Child, Ysgol Bae Baglan in Neath Port Talbot proudly celebrated its Service children by leading a meaningful social impact project in support of Help for Heroes. The school’s Service children, including those from Army, RAF and Royal Navy families, are a valued and visible part of the school community. Their pride in their identity and their willingness to lead has helped raise awareness of the experiences of Armed Forces connected children both within the school and across the local area.

As part of the celebration, pupils planned two fundraising events to support Help for Heroes, a charity that provides support for veterans, service personnel and their families. These activities created an opportunity for service children to take the lead in whole-school events, while also encouraging the wider school community to come together in support of an important cause. The planned events included a sponsored fun run for Year 7 and 8 pupils in April 2026, followed by a sponsored climb of Pen y Fan planned for Year 5 and 6 pupils in June 2026.

This project reflects the spirit of Month of the Military Child, which celebrates Service children each April and shines a light on the positive contribution they make in their schools and communities. By taking part, pupils not only raised funds for Help for Heroes but also developed confidence, teamwork and a strong sense of social responsibility. Through their leadership and enthusiasm, the Service children at Ysgol Bae Baglan showed how schools can celebrate Armed Forces connected pupils in ways that are visible, meaningful and rooted in community action. Bravo and diolch, to all involved!
