On Wednesday 25th March, Alison Stephens from Powys' Equitable Education Team visited Penygloddfa CP School to deliver a Month of the Military Child craft workshop with their Service children and buddies. SSCE Cymru School Liaison Officer, Cara, was lucky enough to go along for the afternoon.
The children spent the session creating their own windchimes which will be entered into the Never Such Innocence Poetry and Art competition, with the theme 'Winds of change'.
They discussed how change in their lives had made them feel and reflected back on times where they had experienced changes due to being part of a Service family. Some examples were 'nervous to start a new school' and 'excited to make new friends.' They wrote these down on clay leaves which would blow in the wind on their windchimes.
They got crafty and created their windchimes with sticks and decorated them with lots of different materials before adding their leaves.
Alison returned to the school at the beginning of Month of the Military Child to deliver a poetry workshop with them. The Service children and friends thoroughly enjoyed writing their 'Winds of change' poems, which will also be entered into the Never Such Innocence competition this year.
A big thank you to Alison for delivering the lovely session and Penygloddfa CP School for inviting us along and celebrating your Service children this Month of the Military Child.
