On Monday 20th April Catwg Primary School welcomed the Mayor of Neath Port Talbot to a very special celebration assembly to celebrate the ‘Month of the Military Child’. The 3 Service Children at Catwg Primary, Arthur, Ayrton and Thomas led a very moving assembly where they highlighted what it meant to be a Military Child, how their families differ and displayed the great strengths Military Children hold whilst they recited the ‘Dandelion Poem’.
The whole school got involved in singing and signing some beautiful songs about belonging and being there for each other, a very important notion to Military Chlidren who often have many school and home moves in their lives.
The Mayor and Mayoress had the great honour of awarding the ‘Catwg Troopers’ with their badges of recognition whilst the children’s very proud families watched on. There was time afterwards for the Mayor to meet with the families and discuss what support the families could benefit from within NPT.
After the assembly the children sat together with their Service Children School Champion (SCSC) Lisa and compiled a list of ‘Pupil Promises’ specific to their school that they would like Mr Phillips, headteacher, to endorse and take forward to ensure that all Service Children at Catwg have the best and most supported time.
