Mr Reg White: Bronze Winner of the 2026 Pearson National Teaching Awards Unsung Hero

In March, SSCE Cymru nominated Mr Reg White for the 2026 Pearson National Teaching Awards Unsung Hero category, recognising his dedication to the Forces Life Club community at Haverfordwest High VC School. After a highly competitive judging process, with entries from schools and education settings across the UK, Reg was named a Bronze Winner.

After receiving the wonderful news, we contacted our school colleague, Miranda Corcoran, who suggested that members of the Club organise a surprise celebration. They planned to present Mr White with the personal letter from the Teaching Awards President, Sir Michael Morpurgo, along with his certificate and Bronze Winner lapel pin.

The pupils kept the award a complete surprise.

On National Thank a Teacher Day, 17 June, Service Pupils from Haverfordwest High VC School gathered for a special Afternoon Tea Award Ceremony to celebrate Mr White’s Bronze National Teaching Award and his ongoing support for the Forces Life Club community. Mr White was surprised and deeply moved, while Service Pupil Ambassadors welcomed guests from local schools and partner organisations and gave heartfelt speeches about the support they receive, Reg’s impact, and what the Club means to them.

The pupils also presented a £1,500 cheque to the VC Gallery, raised through sponsorship from recent Tree Planting and Tommy Sleep Out events in support of local veterans.

It was a lovely event and a well-deserved award for someone who makes a real difference to Service children, young people and the local Armed Forces community.
