On Tuesday 11th November Ysgol Bae Baglan conducted a Whole School Remembrance Service in school. In addition to pupils and staff, they were joined by a group of 25 veterans from the local area, Service children from the YBB cluster schools, invited guests from the Local Authority and the family of Jonathan Hetherington. Jonathan was an ex-pupil of the school, who lost his life in the service of his country during a tour of Afghanistan in 2006. Jonathan’s name and details are recorded on the permanent Remembrance Memorial, located in the Quad Yard within the school grounds.
The day started with a reception for the guests, hosted by YBB's Service children and other leaders from across year 7&8. The visitors very much enjoyed this opportunity to speak informally with Service children from across cluster. At 1035hrs, YBB Service children, many of whom were in their cadet uniforms led guests out to the service area. The event saw over 1300 pupils and staff along with 100 guests coming together to read Remembrance poetry in Welsh and English, observe the 2-minute silence and come together to remember collectively.
