Raglan CiW VC Primary School

Raglan CiW VC School's Service children club currently has 15 active members from across all year groups. The club is co-ordinated by Ms. Caroline Hammond, who was herself a Service child. 

The club aims to come together at least once a week, where the Service children enjoy participating in crafts and games, with a focus on sharing time to talk. They joined in at the SSCE Cymru East Wales Forces Festival at Raglan Barracks in 2023, celebrate Month of the Military Child every April and take time to reflect for Remembrance.   

A club member, from year 5 explained how 'having weekly support has helped me talk when I feel sad.  I like working with other children who understand how I feel. I especially liked going on the Armed Forces Day – it was great fun!!'

A parent currently serving in the Armed Forces said that 'these sessions are highly valued and much appreciated - we do hope they are able to continue.'

Mrs Marles, the headteacher, is very proactive in her support of the club and recognises the positive impact it has on this group of pupils. This school has been awarded the bronze Armed Forces Friendly School status for the wonderful support they have in place for their Service children. Thank you team Raglan, we look forward to supporting you as you work towards your Silver status.  

In May 2025, Raglan CIW VC Primary School led a powerful project celebrating the voices of Service children through storytelling and film. In collaboration with SSCE Cymru and Big Foot Education, pupils across several schools shared their unique experiences in Military Me: Born to be Brave.
