On Tuesday 10th March over 50 Military connected children and young people from 11 schools across Neath Port Talbot (NPT) came together for NPT's Service Pupil Promise event.
This pupil voice event allowed all involved to share their experiences of being a Service child helping us build a clear picture of the support currently in place across schools and the local authority, what is working well, and what they would like to see more of in the future.
The event was a true reflection of the incredible support NPT already has in place for it's Service children. Throughout the day it was clear the sense of community and belonging amongst these Service children was key and how important it is that there are events such as this to bring them all together. Next steps - matching hoodies, badges and buck hats!!
We'd just like to say a massive thank you to everyone involved in the day. A special thank you to Julie Stapleton (NPT Vulnerable Learners Service) and Kelly Dunn (Service Child School Champion, Cefn Saeaon Comprehensive School) for organising and hosting such a brilliant event. Thank you also to Councillor Nia Jenkins for opening this event and to Finola (AFLO) and Tim (Armed Forces Champion) for your support.
The biggest thanks of all must go to the wonderful Service children and Service Children School Champions from NPT. Your voices, your voices, will now be used to shape how schools and the council support you through the creation of the NPT Service Pupil Promise. We can' wait to see the finished Promise.
