On Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th April, to coincide with Month of the Military Child, the first Pembrokeshire Service Pupil Promise workshops took place. The Service Pupil Promise will be a commitment from the local authority to support children from Armed Forces families, ensuring the LA listen to their voices, and strengthen their commitment to the Covenant.
Across the two days Susie and Nadine from Pembrokeshire County Council, Ben from the Army Welfare Service and Yas and Becca from SSCE Cymru delivered workshops for Service children across 5 schools; Pembroke Dock Community Primary School, Haverfordwest High VC School, Milford Haven Community Primary School, Prendergast CP School and Ysgol Waldo Williams.
The Service children took part in pupil voice activities sharing their experiences and views on being a Service child. They reflected on what being a Service child was like for them, considered the different terminology used, the pros and cons, and different types of support. They also got creative with Service children imagery and creating Service children and Month of the Military Child themed art or badges.
The information gathered from the Service children over these two days will be used to support the planning of the main Pembrokeshire Service Pupil Promise event taking place in June for Service children across the LA.
Diolch to all the staff from the different organisations and schools who supported these workshops as well as the amazing Service children.
