The SSCE Cymru ‘Seren of the month’ award is an opportunity for our team to publicly recognise an SSCE Cymru STAR, and say thank you to a Service child, member of school staff, work colleague, network member or organisation that have positively collaborated with us or shown exceptional support to Service children in education and their local Armed Forces community. We are grateful to work with some truly inspiring individuals and groups who ensure that Service children continue to feel valued and celebrated here in Wales.
Emily
Service child at Ysgol Gynradd Corn Hir
For the Month of the Military Child, SSCE Cymru is proud to name Emily, a pupil from Ysgol Gynradd Corn Hir (Isle of Anglesey), as our Seren of the Month. Emily's school commented that Emily, is a spirited 12-year-old whose father serves with the RFA, excels academically despite the challenges of military life. She is a beloved friend with a passion for sports and a fun-loving, caring nature.
Along with her school friend Ani, Emily narrated the Welsh audio for six storybooks from the charity Little Troopers, offering insight into the experiences of Service children. With her dad deployed at the time, Emily felt a personal connection to the stories, and Ani gained a deeper understanding of Emily's feelings.
These books are an invaluable resource for any school, especially those with Service children. If your school would like to receive a FREE bilingual collection of these storybooks, please contact us at SSCECymru@wlga.gov.uk
